The Position
With the proper in-house training on all technical aspects of our work, you will be able to meet with current and prospective clients and provide them with custom solution to their pavement maintenance and site construction needs. The Sales Estimator’s main role will be to generate and close sales while developing long-term business relationships. You will concentrate on generating, developing and closing sales opportunities with high end Property Managers, General Contractors and owners of large business parks or office building in the greater Bay Area. Your typical day will consist of meeting with current or prospective clients, asking questions of what their needs are, developing of scope of work based on those needs and your recommendations to create an accurate estimate and proposal. Follow up on all proposals to answer any questions the client may have and to maximize the chance of closing the sale when presenting the proposal. Once contract is signed, proceed to schedule the project following the procedures at the office and field so the construction operations team is ready to do the job and you will manage the project from beginning to end.
 
Desired Background 
Minimum of 3-5 years sales experience in building trades, a plus in the paving industry. Demonstrate strong awareness and concern for paving quality and safety.
 
Required Professional Skills & Personal Attributes
  • Demonstrated salesmanship ability with experience developing long term business relationships, and ability to generate leads and follow up effectively.
  • Demonstrates effective negotiation skills and judgment to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
  • Strong communication, math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and geo-technical reports a plus but is not required.
  • Collaborative team player with a passion for construction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, iPhone, iPad and Mac. computers, and overall technology literacy.
  • Able to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities.
  • Project management and field supervisory experience a strong plus. 
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Proven ability to set objectives and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid California Drivers License.
 Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Participate in the development of marketing plans, sales targets, and pricing strategies.
  • Compile market intelligence and identify potential projects.
  • Represent the company within the business community and industry associations.
  • Accurately estimate the cost of materials, labor, and equipment, while ensuring project scope is fully covered.
  • Take the lead in preparing a complete proposal with the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Serve as a primary contact with customers through the entire job process (project management).
  • Develop and track change orders and project invoices.
  • Resolve customer issues to maintain high levels of satisfaction.
  • Review and follow-up on accounts receivable as it relates to the individuals project until PYM received.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Project management and field supervisory experience a strong plus. 
  • Estimating and professional sales experience: 1+ years preferred.
  • Ability to review blueprints, specifications, proposals, plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of asphalt or concrete products is an asset.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Strong analytic and computer skills.
  • Proven ability to set objectives and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
 
Compensation 
Base salary plus commission. This is a full time position.

Opening for: Asphalt Laborer

Alaniz Construction is seeking Asphalt Laborers. An Asphalt Laborer is responsible for performing various duties on construction and/or paving projects. This person will generally work in utility capacity by transferring from one task to another where demands are required.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Yard Manager, Human Resources and Safety Manager, and CEO.
  • Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel.
  • Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job-site.
  • May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer.
    • Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.
  • Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.
  • Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Adhere to company safety policies, actively participate in job-site and safety meetings as required and all Company related training.
  • Must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety guidelines at all times.
  • Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Dispatcher with regards to daily production schedule and activities to complete job orders on time.

Opening for: Equipment Operator

Alaniz Construction is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator. This person will operate one or more types of construction equipment; such as asphalt pavers, asphalt rollers, tractors, material transfer vehicles, and bobcats as they apply to paving operations. Operators are responsible for safe operation, non-mechanical maintenance and up-keep of equipment.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operating specialized paving equipment and vehicles safely, productively and under the supervision of the Foremen or Yard Manager.
  • Discuss plans and goals for the day’s work with Foremen and determines best method of getting assigned work done safely, productively and on time.
  • Perform physical duties that are commonly associated with the safe and productive operation of said piece of equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining paving equipment in good working condition to ensure effective operations by:
  • Performing daily equipment walk-around inspection to check fluid levels, hoses, isolators, drum scrapers, water system, distribution mats and wear components to verify machine is capable of performing safely and productively.
  • Reporting deficiencies to Foreman (completing report).
  • Performing end-of-day maintenance, clean-up and walk around to ensure mechanical and physical condition of the equipment meets manufacturers requirements.
  • Operates equipment with priority of making the job safe for all persons working around the equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring your equipment is operation-worthy prior to leaving the yard and/or job-site at all times and work directly with mechanic to guarantee any repairs needed are made to the vehicle prior to leaving the yard.
  • Assisting in jobsite setup.
  • Adhere to company safety policies, actively participate in job-site and safety meetings as required and all Company related training.
  • Must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety guidelines at all times.
  • Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Dispatcher with regards to daily production schedule and activities to complete job orders on time.
  • Other duties to ensure Quality and On-Time project completions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years as a paving operator.
  • Must understand rolling patterns and process of achieving density.
  • Required to monitor the condition of the equipment, checking all fluid levels, maintain water level and spray systems, and report any unusual noises or vibrations.
  • Team player able to work a flexible schedule and overtime and weekends to meet our customer’s needs.

Opening for: CLASS A Commercial Driver

Alaniz Construction Inc. is a family oriented, mid-size Pavement Maintenance contractor serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989. We are searching for experienced drivers in the paving industry. Come and join a hard working team!

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate a ten wheeler truck with two axle trailer, specialized paving equipment and vehicles safely, productively and under the supervision of the Foremen or Yard Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring your truck/trailer is road-worthy prior to leaving the yard and/or job-site at all times and work directly with mechanic to guarantee any repairs needed are made to the vehicle prior to leaving the yard.
  • Pre and Post Trip Inspections for truck/trailer and complete daily logs.
  • Keep accurate driver logs, and comply with all applicable DOT hours of service.
  • Loading, unloading and hauling paving equipment, tools, materials and supplies to various jobsite locations.
  • Assisting in jobsite setup.
  • Assist in light maintenance of your truck/trailer.
  • Adhere to company safety policies, actively participate in job-site and safety meetings as required and all Company related training.
  • Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Dispatcher with regards to daily production schedule and activities.
  • Other duties to ensure Quality and On-Time project completions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Know, understand and comply with all Department of Transportation, (DOT), state and local regulations.
  • Class A CDL driver’s license and tanker endorsement.
  • Background in paving or construction helpful.
  • Team player able to work a flexible schedule and overtime and weekends to meet our customer’s needs.
  • English oral and written mandatory and Spanish a plus!

Safety and Physical Demands:

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety guidelines at all times.
  • Physical ability to operate paving equipment to load and unload it from trailer.
  • Must be able to operate vehicles and trailers in a safe manner, in compliance with local, state and federal traffic laws.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to get in/out and around truck/trailer without issue.
